Johnny Cottonwoods & The New Nightmares formed in 2012 out of the ashes of Pendulum by the band’s two co-founders.
Pendulum’s lone album “Silent Scream” came out in 2001. The reclusive band had little activity since then, and eventually stopped rehearsing together. The two original members, the bass player and lead guitarist would occasionally jam together in the band’s aftermath, but never recorded anything new. Eventually they decided to form their own band without the keyboardist and drummer from Pendulum, and Johnny Cottonwoods & the New Nightmares was born.
Johnny Cottonwoods & the New Nightmares are stylistically different from their predecessors. While Pendulum was heavily influenced by the Doors and Pink Floyd, the New Nightmares are additionally influenced by a greater variety of bands, including: Tom Waits, the Flaming Lips, Nirvana, Beck, and Eddie Vedder, among others. The result is a heavier, more complete, and at times unconventional and unique sound.
Johnny Cottonwoods & the New Nightmares are based in Portland, OR.
